York County Council has inked a new deal in hiring now a second firm to handle its search for a new county manager. The new firm, hired after the council met in executive session Monday, is the Waters Consulting Group, of Dallas, Tex.
Waters was selected following a decision more than a week ago to fire the previous firm chosen in February due to a lack of qualified applicants.
York County Council Chairman Britt Blackwell said Tuesday what he wants to see in a good county manager.

Waters will be paid $21,500 for its efforts in the search; that’s less than the $30,000 the neighboring City of Charlotte paid the firm for its own city manager search.
Blackwell said the county likely lost around $10,000 and a months’ time after parting ways with the previous firm.
Assistant County Manager Anna Moore has filled the position since Jim Baker parted ways with York County in January.
Blackwell says he expects the search to wrap up within 45-60 days with a new county manager chosen by the middle of this summer.
Note: A previous version of this story misidentified the consulting firm as Walters Consulting out of Albany, N.Y. We regret the error.
