Inman Farms reopens in York County as new agri-tourism destination

A slice of York County history is now on display in the western portion of the county as the 120-year-old Inman Farms reopens as York County’s newest agri-tourism destination.

The farm, which sits just a mile outside of York County on Black Highway, weathered the cotton, peach and grape crops in the 20th century, and now is home as an outdoor museum.

Roe Inman, who still lives on the farm, says it’s a pleasure to convey history to the next generation.

Organizers and the county’s convention and visitors bureau held a soft opening on the property Thursday. York Mayor and Winthrop History Professor Eddie Lee says the farm’s future mirrors that of a new season.

Today, while much of the farming operations have ceased, the farm is open to local farmers and artisans interested in selling locally-made items.

Descendants of the original owners still live on the land and say they’re proud to reopen a piece of York County history.

The farm officially debuts on the 2013 Ag and Art Tour in June. Admission is free and open on the weekends and by appointment.
