Northwestern’s Rudolph commits to Oklahoma State

In front of a crowded gymnasium at Northwestern High School, Trojans quarterback Mason Rudolph made known his intention to accept a full scholarship offer and play football at Oklahoma State University.

The 6-foot, 5-inch tall, 215 pound, rising senior also had offers from Louisville, LSU, Ole Miss, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Trojans head coach Kyle Richardson was visibly emotional when describing Mason, stopping at times to compose himself. He said Rudolph was one of the most humble individuals he had ever been around and continually did what he was asked.

Rudolph, who began his career as a wide receiver at Westminster-Catawba school, enrolled at Northwestern in 2011 and took his first organized snap at quarterback that fall.

In two seasons of play, Rudolph has thrown for over 6,500 yards, 65 touchdowns, while completing 68 percent of his passes. Along the way he picked up numerous awards including All-State both years, statewide offensive player of the year as a junior, five WRHI/Coca-Cola offensive player of the game awards and multiple others.

Rudolph leads a strong class that returns for Northwestern this fall. The Trojans lost a gut-wrenching overtime game to Greenwood in last year’s state championship, and during today’s press conference Rudolph vowed that his team had “unfinished business” and had plans to win the state title this year. The Trojans will begin 2013 with a bulls-eye on their back as MaxPreps.com has rated Northwestern as the 22nd best team in the nation, and the #1 overall team in South Carolina.
