Crews close 2 southbound lanes of I-77 for more bridge repairs

You can expect more delays on I-77 this week in Rock Hill.
Wednesday morning, road crews found holes in the southbound lanes of Interstate 77 in the deck of the Catawba River Bridge.
As a result, two of the four southbound lanes will be closed for repairs starting Wednesday at 4 p.m. Repairs are expected to be complete by Monday.
The S.C. Department of Transportation says the hole was found in a routine inspection of state roadways from the North Carolina line to Columbia.
SCDOT said the hole is at mile marker 82.5 and is approximately one foot in diameter.
The hole is the result of “aging infrastructure,” SCDOT said in a press release, “not the recent rains.”
In June, crews closed three different sections of the northbound lanes of Interstate 77 to fix several holes.
SCDOT crews regularly patrol the highways across the state looking for weakened asphalt and concrete.
