Charges dropped against suspect in July 2 CVS Pharmacy robbery

After nearly a month behind bars, the man accused of robbing a Cherry Road CVS Pharmacy on July 2 is now out of jail.
Jason Thatcher turned himself in to police July 4 after he was publicly named as the lone suspect in the Armed Robbery of the store’s pharmacy.
But now, after further investigation, police have identified additional suspects in the case, and have chosen to drop the charges against Thatcher.
“An individual who looks very similar to Mr. Thatcher and drives the same-type pickup truck has continued with the robberies,” Rock Hill Police spokesman Mark Bollinger said.
Since the July 2 incident in Rock Hill, similar Armed Robbery cases have appeared in both North and South Carolina.
“After Mr. Thatcher’s arrest, his family and his attorney continued to tell that he didn’t do it,” Bollinger said. “They fed us leads and we followed up on them but nothing ever came of them.”
Bollinger said as the other incidents occurred, authorities realized that Thatcher was not the right suspect.
“This other person who looks like Mr. Thatcher…continues to do it without camouflaging himself. No Jason mask, no face mask, no hoodie. He just goes in, doesn’t hide his face, and leaves,” Bollinger said.
On July 30, a similar Armed Robbery was reported at the same store around 5:40 a.m.
That incident, Bollinger said, does not appear to be related, but it is not being ruled out.
