Jennifer Nettles has released her new single, “That Girl,” to country radio. It is the lead single from her upcoming solo debut project. She co-wrote the song with Butch Walker and it’s about a girl tricked by a man who is already in a relationship with another woman.

“’That Girl’ could be called ‘The Ballad of Jolene,’” Jennifer said. “Butch and I didn’t start out with that concept but it evolved throughout the writing process and this could be Jolene calling to say ‘I don’t want your man and I don’t want to be that girl.’”

To celebrate the single’s release, Jennifer has lined up a string of television performances. This morning she debuted “That Girl” live on ABC’s Good Morning America. She’ll perform the song on Live with Kelly & Michael September 3 and NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on September 10. “That Girl” is available for download at all digital retailers.

Jennifer’s debut solo album is expected to be released in early 2014. Produced by Rick Rubin, the project was recorded at the famous Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, California.
