Tim McGraw has had a lot of ups and downs in his career over the years. He views those challenging times as the best opportunities for creativity which in turn, has produced some his best work. He compares the phenomenon to a baseball player having an off day.

“It’s like when you’re playing ball, and you show up and are like, ‘Man, I really don’t feel like playing today… I feel slow … or my uniform’s not hanging right,’” Tim said. “You look back and those were the days where usually you were 4 for 5, almost hitting the cycle. And you made diving plays at shortstop and you turned a couple double plays.”

The same holds true for him in music. “The times you feel like you were struggling; the times you felt like you’re challenged; times you felt like things really aren’t clicking like they need to be clicking are the times that you hit home runs with your music,” he said.

While Tim couldn’t be happier with how his career is going these days, including enjoying the success of his latest single, “Southern Girl,” as well as plenty of upcoming projects, he reminds himself that the good often comes from the bad.

“All those times you feel like maybe you’re done or you don’t wanna do this anymore; maybe you should do something else for a while,” he said. “Something good usually comes out of it.”

Tim and wife Faith Hill will return to Las Vegas for an encore run of their Soul2Soul show later this year. Watch Tim’s “Southern Girl” video >>
