Those that have been to a Carrie Underwood concert know firsthand how much the multi-Grammy winner pours into each performance. Dramatic sets, captivating video, wardrobe changes and mind-blowing theatrics make each show an event while the lady who wields one of country music’s finest voices puts on a show fans will not soon forget. Now, after several major headlining tours, Pollstar’s Top Female Country Touring Artist of 2012 releases her first-ever concert DVD.

The Blown Away Tour: LIVE, available now, was filmed last March in Ontario, Calif. during Carrie’s run of sold-out 2013 dates. The tour first launched in Spring 2012 and hit 110 cities, six countries and three continents before wrapping in May of this year. Along the way, Carrie performed for more than 1,000,000 fans. It’s an intense schedule that in many ways makes the performance captured in Ontario all that much more impressive.

Over the course of a 20-song set list packed with hits including nine no. 1 singles such as “Before He Cheats,” “All-American Girl” and “Wasted,” Carrie treats fans to a high-octane show that is absolutely electric and hardly ever slows down. Backed by an eight-piece band, Carrie commands the stage with a charisma that keeps viewers glued to each step she takes. Rising from beneath the stage on the opener “Good Girl,” Carrie’s a born performer who knows exactly how to respond to the energy reflected from the audience. She can strut through the hook-heavy anthem “Undo It” or sit alone in a bedroom set on the ballad “I Know You Won’t”; either way the audience hangs on her every move. Her ability to connect with an audience also shines with simple gestures like a wave and a smile to individual fans or throwing out leis during her island-inspired tune “One Way Ticket.” They seem like such small acts, but it only strengthens her bond with the audience.

The show is divided into four acts and an encore: Storm Warning, Lightning, Calm, Twister and Blown Away. With the help of her Creative Director, Raj Kapoor, Carrie turns her concert performance into a story through her song choices, wardrobe changes, video collages and varying sets. As Raj points out during the Behind The Scenes feature, subtle references to The Wizard of Oz also pop up along the way. Other DVD bonus features include a look at Carrie’s wardrobe on tour, all four music videos from the Blown Away album, interactions with fans and a wonderfully-entertaining time lapse video chronicling the entire production from set-up through performance and take-down.

Carrie certainly has a few tricks up her sleeve to delight fans. The video production company does an impressive job capturing Carrie and her band on a nearly 6,000 lb. secondary stage floating 150 feet above the crowd. During her stellar rendition of “Blown Away” to close the show, a tornado erupts from center stage using tanks full of CO2 and Nitrogen. Match this high-end production with jaw-dropping visuals, a precise performance and Carrie’s incredible vocals and The Blown Away Tour: LIVE does an excellent job conveying what many fans already know; Carrie is a tireless performer who works exceptionally hard to make sure each member of her audience has a wonderful experience…either at the arena or now at home.
