Two York County men are now behind bars after drug agents say they were stealing from cars they towed providing wrecker services in the Fort Mill area.

Kenneth Dover and Robert Laney of Dover’s Wrecker Service on Old Nation Ford were arrested Tuesday after officers with York County’s Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit seized more than a hundred prescription pills and dozens of stolen weapons.

Drug unit Commander Marvin Brown explains to WRHI how his officers were first alerted to the theft ring.

Dover owned the towing service while Laney was an employee.

Both men have previous convictions, Brown said, which bar them from possessing guns.

Brown said theft from towed vehicles is nothing new.

Laney is charged with possession of cocaine and manufacturing and possession of drugs.  Dover is charged with possession of cocaine, manufacturing and possession of drugs, trafficking heroin, receiving stolen goods and possession of stolen guns.

Dover’s bond has since been denied, Laney remains in custody on $6,500 bond.
