York Co. weapons instructor brings talents to high-profile women at Michigan college

This weekend, 26 wealthy women from across the country are heading to a small private college in Michigan for a four-day course on how to protect themselves in the face of danger.

And a Rock Hill-based weapons instructor is just one of four female instructors selected to teach the high-profile figures self-defense and how to handle a firearm.

DeWayne Saunders and his wife, Elizabeth, run DES Training in Rock Hill. Saunders says his wife brings more than 20 years of experience to the adult-aged students, while a team of scholars will teach the class on the legal ramifications of using force to protect themselves.

Hillsdale College is a private school in central Michigan with a student body of 1,100.

DeWayne Saunders said top executives from gun-maker Smith and Wesson area also set to be in attendance, giving the students the white-glove treatment in selecting their firearms.

Typical courses offered elsewhere cost approximately $5,000, Saunders said. Cost estimates for this specific course were not immediately available.
