The man accused of killing two people and trying to kill a third person Friday evening in the River Pines neighborhood of York County has died.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Trent Faris told reporters this afternoon that 34-year-old Joshua Grose was pronounced dead at Piedmont Medical Center after attempting to take his own life at the Moss Justice Center.
Faris says once Grose was booked into the detention center late Friday night, he was very uncooperative.
Early this morning Faris says Grose tried to drown himself in his cell toilet, and hit his head on the wall several times.
After that, Faris says Grose was placed in a restraining chair, then began hitting his head on the back of the chair.
Faris says when guards tried to place a helmet on Grose, they noticed a laceration on the back of his head.
That laceration was treated at the detention center.
Later in the morning, Faris says Grose was found unresponsive in his cell.
When emergency medical personnel began treating him, Faris says Grose was in cardiac arrest.
He was taken to Piedmont Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:05 AM today.
Faris says an autopsy will be performed Monday to determine the cause of death.
