Drug charges Tuesday have — for now — benched South Pointe senior quarterback Davonta Blake from one of the largest cross-town football rivalries of the season.
Blake, 17, was arrested Tuesday and faces six charges for possession and distribution of marijuana, Rock Hill police spokesman Mark Bollinger confirmed late Tuesday night.
He was released Wednesday afternoon from the York County Detention Center on $30,000 bond.
Police said Blake was selling marijuana on school property and following the execution of a search warrant, recovered 19 baggies of marijuana on him at school at at his home on Mays Drive in Rock Hill.
Due to the nature of where police say Blake sold the drugs — those charges are even more severe. In addition to drug possession charges, police have also charged him with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
The Rock Hill Herald reports Blake will not play Friday night against nationally ranked Northwestern High School. Efforts to reach school district spokeswoman Elaine Baker for additional comments were unsuccessful.
South Pointe High School athletic director Mike Drummond declined to comment on this story.
