Taylor Swift Education Center Is Officially Open [1]

NASHVILLE, TN – OCTOBER 12: Singer Taylor Swift poses with one of her very first-12 string guitars and with Museum Director Kyle Young during the Taylor Swift Education Center opening ceremony at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on October 12, 2013 in Nashville, Tennessee. Seven-time GRAMMY winner Swift’s $4 million gift to endow the center is the largest individual artist gift in the Hall of Fame’s history. (Photo by Royce DeGrie/TAS/Getty Images for TAS)

Taylor Swift [2] opened the Taylor Swift Education Center at the Country Music  Hall of Fame and Museum [3] on Saturday, October 12. Thanks to her generous $4 million gift, the center will provide a valuable learning opportunity for children for years to come, reports The Tennessean. [4]

“I’m so glad this is becoming a space where that’s readily available,” Taylor said. “There will be demonstrations and instruments kids can try without having to spend money and buy one for themselves. If they want to hear a songwriter talk about what it is to craft a song, the fact that that can happen here is really unbelievable.”

Taylor’s gift is the largest donation by an artist in the Museum’s history. The 7,500 square-foot center includes three classrooms, a learning lab, and an art gallery space. An interactive exhibit gallery will open next spring. Last year, 75,000 students participated in Museum programs.

“There’s been a lot of press lately about Nashville being the ‘it’ city,” Mayor Karl Dean said. “This city is truly proud that Taylor — the ‘it’ superstar of the times — got her start and calls Nashville home.”

Taylor has a long-standing relationship with the Museum. She signed her record deal there in 2005 and gave some her first public performances in its plaza. She has loaned and donated a number of artifacts to the Museum from her personal collection and performed at several of its fundraising events. During the ribbon cutting ceremony, she presented the Museum with a 12-string Koa Taylor guitar on which she wrote some of her first songs.
