George Strait is nominated for Entertainer of the Year at this year’s CMA Awards, making him the most nominated artist in CMA Awards history with 82. He was last nominated for the top honor in 2009 and now has a total of 18 nominations in the category. He won the award in 1989 and 1990 and says going onstage never gets old.
“It’s a heckuva feeling,” he said. “I mean it’s a huge rush. The more excited the people get, the more inspired you get, and you’re up there just feeding off of that.”
While George will wrap his final set of tour dates in 2014 — The Cowboy Rides Away Tour — he still plans to perform occasionally. “I can’t imagine not ever being able to experience that feeling again,” he said. “Once you’ve had it, you crave it over and over again.”
George will perform with Alan Jackson in tribute to the late George Jones during the CMA Awards, which air live on ABC at 8/7c on November 6. Before the show, tune in to Great American Country for all the glitz and glamor from the red carpet during our special CMA Red Carpet Live, airing at 7/6c.
