Kacey Musgraves has six nominations at the 47th Annual CMA Awards, including Song of the Year, presented to the songwriter, where she will compete against herself. Her debut single “Merry Go ‘Round,” which she co-wrote with Josh Osborne and Shane McAnally, is up for the trophy as is Miranda Lambert’s No. 1 hit “Mama’s Broken Heart,” which Kacey wrote alongside Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark.

“How lucky can you get?” she said. “Some people don’t even get to have the chance to have one song heard or cut, let alone two. It’s like a huge perspective for me. Just as a songwriter I feel like I’m able to achieve the best of both worlds with having a song that I wrote and got to sing and perform on the radio, and then another artist, a girl that I grew up with 10 miles down the road. To be able to share that and to be recognized for the words that came out of my brain is unreal.”

While Kacey would love to win Song of the Year, her debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, is up for Album of the Year and a win in that category would mean the world to her. She co-produced the project, which contains “Merry Go ‘Round,” with Luke Laird and Shane McAnally.

“If you can take that home, then I feel like your entire body of work is rewarded,” she said. “It’s not just the songs or the singer, it’s the band. It’s the package. It’s the photography that’s on the album cover, which my sister did. I’m just excited. I really got to pour my heart and soul into making Same Trailer, Different Park, and I was very lucky in being able to just do what I want to do and say what I want to say and take my time making it. If I got to take home that award, I would just melt into a puddle.”

Kacey is also nominated for Female Vocalist and New Artist of the Year, as well as Single of the Year for “Merry Go ‘Round.” Her latest single, “Follow Your Arrow,” is at radio now.

The CMA Awards, co-hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, will air live on ABC at 8/7c on November 6. Before the show, tune in to Great American Country for all the glitz and glamor from the red carpet during our special CMA Red Carpet Live, airing at 7/6c.
