A bar fight Saturday in Rock Hill has turned deadly. O’Dell Fields, 66, died Sunday at Carolinas Medical Center, less than a day after he was airlifted to the hospital following a bar fight at the Sandbar on Celanese Road in Rock Hill.
That night, witnesses told police Fields and Eric Cobb, 30, took a verbal argument outside. Rock Hill Police spokesman Mark Bollinger said Fields punched O’Dell in the head with a closed fist.
O’Dell did not respond to first responders’ attempts to revive him. He died at Carolinas Medical Center.
Cobb, of Lake Wylie, was initially charged with Assault and Battery, but his charges have since been upgraded to murder. His bond was denied Monday afternoon by a Rock Hill Magistrate.
York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said an autopsy will be conducted on Fields’ body Tuesday.
